The world is changing at a frightening rate, and unfortunately, not all of it is for the best. Animals are become extent at a rate that almost matches the great dinosaur extinction, and as for the environment, enough has been said that we must all now surely realise that if we don’t change our ways soon, then it will be too late. People can do some good though, and one way, is by undertaking animal adoptions. For beautiful creatures such as the tiger, this may in fact be the only way that we can prevent them from becoming extinct in the wild. It is predicted that if the current trend continues, they will be extinct within 50 years, and that the only ones left will be in zoos. If you care about endangered species, then do your part, and adopt an animal either for yourself or for someone else as this is one small way that they can be helped.
My Favorite Dog Flea Treatment
Now in an ideal world I wouldn’t need to think about dog flea control. But in the real world, with three dogs, a large garden full of wild-life and a roaming cat that deigns to visit every once in a while fleas are simply a part of life. But rather than stress about them, or risk them posing any danger to my pets health I have come to terms with the need to use an effective flea treatment every month.
For years I managed very well with a spray product used once a month. Over the course of a year though it seemed to become less and less effective. When I spoke to my vet she confirmed that it seemed fleas in our town had simply become immune to the product. It only killed adult fleas, so juveniles were gradually building up resistance and passing it onto their offspring once they were breeding adults.
I tried a few products until I found what for us is the best treatment available. It is K9 Advantix, a spot on treatment that kills ticks and also deters biting flies and mosquitoes which is a real bonus in our region, where warm summers bring many biting pests. If you are struggling with your flea control speak to your vet about what works well in your area. Using something that kills juveniles as well as adult fleas is a great choice if you want to keep future generations of pets free from these pests too. Also it really controls the general population in a far more effective way.
The more modern products tend to contain safer ingredients that are designed to disrupt the bodies of insects only, causing no concern to the health of our pets (unless ingested of course). One thing I would say is that whilst Advantix is great for us, it is quite toxic to cats so should never be used on our feline friends. I simply use it when our cat is out, which is most of the time so not too difficult!
Wireless Dog Fences- Keeping Dogs Contained Safely and More Efficiently
A wireless dog fence is designed to keep dogs from straying to where they are not supposed to go. These kinds of fences are also considered better alternatives to other versions of dog fences. Wireless fences are more efficient in containing dogs within the vicinity because they do not require the installation of physical barriers. Instead, they employ radio signals that send reports and commands. When a dog tries to go out of the intended perimeter, a signal and mild electrical shocks go off to remind dogs to stay within the confinement area.
Some of these wireless dog fences are powered with GPS so that owners can always monitor their pets’ whereabouts. As more sophisticated technologies are developed, pet owners would love to discover that the range of coverage for this kind of device is slowly expanding. This would give dogs more freedom and space to roam around, which could also translate to a happier pet and owner.
New Adventures of an Old Dog Lover
I have always had small dogs. I have always wondered what it would be like to have a big dog though. When I was in fifth grade I had a friend who had a couple of Great Danes. I loved those dogs. They were huge, but just as loveable as my small dogs. They had their own extra large dog beds that they would lounge around in all day while everyone was at work or school. They loved to play in the yard with all the neighborhood kids. They were so gentle and caring with all of us. I have those fond memories of them and still deep down want one, one day. I think it would be a wonderful adventure to have such a big dog and have them to do things with. To me big dogs need more exercise, so I could take them hiking and to the park and for walks. Yeah, I think I will get one, one day.
Check out This Aquarium Lighting Info
I was looking around on the web the other day and I found some aquarium lighting info at The Aquarist Refuge that I thought would be fun to share. This is pretty quick write up, but it clarifies some of the things that I wonder about when I’m looking at the different types of aquariums out there and comparing the different types of lights that are installed on each setup. It’s a crazy thing, really that there are so many different options out there. What ever happened to the simple days when you could just put a goldfish in a tank?
I know that saltwater aquariums are a lot more complicated than that, so maybe that was a stupid comment. When it comes down to it, a saltwater aquarium is basically a simulated ocean or reef, and any type of lighting that can better recreate those conditions is going to be in high demand.
Cute Pink Dog Beds
Are you sick and tired of seeing your dog’s bed because of its dull and boring color? Why not try pink dog beds for a change? Pink dog beds are not only cute. They also have the same features as ordinary dog beds — but pink dog beds are way nicer to look at.
Pink is not a color exclusively for girls. It can be for boys, too. So whether you have a female or a male dog, pink dog beds work just as fine as blue or brown dog beds. But pink dog beds are not only about the pink color. They come in various nice designs, too. If you check your favorite pet shop or online pet stores, you might be surprised that some pink dog beds have amazing designs. Some have dots on them, some are striped, and some have ribbons and bones on them. So, for your dog’s next bed, consider pink dog beds.
Do You Have Pet Insurance For Your Bird?
Pet health insurance is becoming more popular these days. As veterinary care advances it becomes more expensive. Avian veterinarians are even more expensive due to their specialty care and education. Avian care can be expensive and cost a small fortune. Caring for parrots and birds in general can be a costly endeavor. Parrot play toys, food, and all the accessories can add up quick. Bird owners are notoriously compulsive pleaser’s when it comes to their birds.
Shop for an avian pet insurance plan. It could save you thousands in vet care, well exams, and medications. Your bird will thank you and so will your wallet. But before you run out and buy a plan, make sure you check the plans customer satisfaction. For example, check the BBB for complaints. Research forums and Google to see what others experiences have been like. Just because they say they cover your bird there may be a lot of hidden red tape that you may not know about.
